Who is Surge?
Surge is a chromatic Brawler often obtained through the Brawl Pass. His main allure lies in his ability to “upgrade” himself during battles through his Super. Each use of his Super transforms him, enhancing his abilities and altering his appearance up to three times per match.
Abilities and Upgrades
- Main Attack: Juice of Justice
- Surge fires a projectile that splits upon hitting an enemy or reaching its maximum range, allowing him to hit multiple targets or a single target multiple times.
- Super: Party Tricks
- Surge’s Super allows him to upgrade himself up to three levels, each adding a new ability or enhancing his existing capabilities:
- Level 1: Increases movement speed.
- Level 2: Extends the range of his main attack.
- Level 3: His main attack projectiles split even more and cover a wider area.
- Surge’s Super allows him to upgrade himself up to three levels, each adding a new ability or enhancing his existing capabilities:
Strengths
- Adaptability
- Surge’s ability to upgrade himself makes him extremely adaptable. His enhancements allow him to better control space, chase down fleeing Brawlers, or make a quick getaway if needed.
- Area Control
- At his highest upgrade level, Surge can control significant portions of the map with his enhanced main attack, making him a formidable opponent in game modes like Gem Grab or Brawl Ball.
- Burst Potential
- Surge’s split projectiles can deal massive burst damage if positioned correctly, especially in tight spaces where enemies have less room to dodge.
Weaknesses
- Dependency on Super
- Surge’s effectiveness heavily depends on his ability to upgrade. Without his upgrades, he can feel underwhelming in terms of both damage output and mobility.
- Vulnerability to Crowd Control
- Despite his mobility, Surge can be susceptible to crowd control and heavy attacks due to his relatively low health in his base form.
- Super Charge Rate
- Charging his Super initially can be challenging, especially if facing long-range Brawlers who can keep him at bay.
Tips for Playing Surge
- Aggressive Playstyle
- Play aggressively in the early game to charge your Super quickly and begin your upgrades. Position yourself to maximize the impact of your split projectiles.
- Smart Positioning
- Utilize walls and obstacles for cover while you’re in your base form. Once upgraded, use your increased mobility and range to position more offensively.
- Team Synergy
- Coordinate with your team to protect you until you can upgrade and then take a more active role in engagements.
Surge is undeniably a powerful Brawler when used correctly. His upgrade mechanics provide a dynamic gameplay experience that can be incredibly rewarding. However, players need to master the art of charging his Super and utilizing his upgrades strategically. For those who enjoy a challenge and a Brawler that gets stronger as the match progresses, Surge is definitely a good choice. With the right strategy and support from teammates, Surge can dominate the battlefield and lead your team to victory.
